What Makes Cloth Pads Sustainable?

You know what is very cool? Sustainability!

Ya know how single use plastic bags and bottles and things are being made less and less? That’s because we, the consumers, are making more conscious choices about how much trash we produce. It’s also because large corporations are getting better about not providing or selling as many single use plastics.

Now let’s apply that waste-free-living gorgeousness to our menstrual products! It’s because of menstruators who choose reusable menstrual products that this movement is gaining momentum! The reusable padmakers, the menstrual cup manufacturers, the period underwear companies! They’re doing the good work!

My personal favorite option for reusables, obviously, is cloth menstrual pads.

What makes cotton cloth pads sustainable?

  • They can be washed and reused for years n years n years.
  • They are made of mostly organic materials, unless they have a waterproof lining in them, like Moody V’s Leakproof Pads.
  • Cotton is a renewable and biodegradable material.

Disposable pads and tampons create a truly disturbing amount of non-biodegradable waste. In the United States alone, approximately 12 billion pads and 7 billion tampons are discarded each year. To emphasize that, let’s think about what a “billion” is. A billion is 1,000 millions. One million is 1,000 thousands. That. Is. A. Lot. We menstruators can use our power of choice to say no to disposable menstrual products once and for all. These big companies are going to keep making them as long as we are buying them!

If you’re ready to tell those disposable pads, “stay away from me and my son” check out Moody V’s washable, reusable, sustainable cloth menstrual pads. I promise, once you try a cotton cloth pad, you’ll realize that you really don’t have to put up with uncomfortable, sweaty, smelly, sticky disposables. Cloth menstrual pads are sooo frickin nice.
